Context: In a world where modern mage-knights manifest their souls as weapons known as Devices, Ikki Kurogane is labeled the academy's worst-ranked student, the "Worst One." After crossing paths and dueling with the crimson-haired prodigy Stella Vermillion, the two form an unexpected bond. Ikki battles institutional prejudice and powerful peers throughout the internal academy selection matches to earn a spot at the prestigious Seven Star Sword Art Festival.
Continuation: Start reading Light Novel Volume 4 (or Manga Chapter 32 if reading the manga adaptation).
Critical Note: The 12-episode anime adapts Light Novel Volumes 1 through 3 with exceptional fidelity to the core action, though it slightly trims internal monologue and technical swordplay mechanics. The manga adaptation ends around Chapter 45 (corresponding to Volume 4 of the light novel), making the original Light Novel series the only way to experience the full story and the Seven Star Sword Art Festival in its entirety.
Status: Finished.
