Anime Original Story
Source is Manga.
Context: A 3-episode prequel OVA series focusing on Chise Hatori's childhood in Japan before she met Elias Ainsworth. While organizing gifts and books in the English countryside, Chise finds a Japanese children's picture book and recounts a bittersweet memory of discovering a hidden library in the woods and befriending its reclusive librarian, Riichi Miura.
Continuation: Watch The Ancient Magus' Bride Season 1, or start reading Manga Chapter 1.
Critical Note: This OVA was written by the original manga creator, Kore Yamazaki, as a canon anime-original backstory prequel bundled with manga volumes 6, 7, and 8. It doesn't adapt main storyline chapters, so it acts as an introductory prologue best watched either before Season 1 or between Episodes 12 and 13.
Status: Finished.
